Unlocking the ability to craft Gems requires a few initial steps. After joining Liu Bei's Volunteer Army in Chapter 1, visit an Inn. You'll receive a letter from Zhang Fei, introducing Gems and their raw material: Pyroxene.

Pyroxene is found throughout the overworld as large, jewel-like formations. These spawn randomly, so keep an eye out while traveling between battles. You can also acquire Pyroxene as rewards from side quests, collecting Old Coins, and reading Inn letters, ensuring a steady supply.

Once you've gathered Pyroxene, return to an Inn to craft Gems. The crafting process is randomized. You select a quantity of Pyroxene (one or ten yields the same random results).
