When it comes to identifying ghosts in *Phasmophobia*, you'll want to make full use of all the tools available, including the intriguing Cursed Objects. Each one comes with its own risks, so here's a comprehensive guide on how all the Cursed Objects work in the game.

Cursed Objects, officially termed "Cursed Possessions," are unique items in Phasmophobia that randomly appear on each map you explore, depending on your game mode and settings. To harness their power, you need to locate and activate them within the game environment.
While the equipment in your van is designed to aid your investigations, Cursed Objects offer shortcuts that come with significant drawbacks. Activating a Cursed Object can instantly reveal the ghost's favorite room or buff your team, but it often comes at the cost of rapidly depleting your sanity, causing temporary blindness, or triggering a surprise "cursed" hunt.
It's crucial to use Cursed Objects judiciously, as they might not spawn at certain difficulty levels or in Challenge Mode.

There are currently seven different Cursed Objects in Phasmophobia, each with unique abilities and associated risks. A common effect among all is a significant drop in the user's sanity. If playing in a group, it's advisable to keep your distance from the player using the Cursed Object, as it increases the likelihood of a "cursed hunt" immediately following its use.
Cursed Hunts function similarly to regular hunts but bypass your current sanity level, can occur even if a regular hunt just ended, and last 20 seconds longer, making evasion and hiding more challenging.
Below is a detailed list of all Cursed Objects in Phasmophobia and their functionalities. This list will be updated as new Cursed Objects are introduced in future updates.
Cursed Object | Ability |
---|---|
Tarot Cards | 10 randomly generated cards that grant a buff, debuff, or increase ghost activity. Certain cards like "Death" can trigger a Cursed Hunt. |
Ouija Board | Allows direct communication with the ghost by asking questions such as "Where are you?", "Where is the bone?", or "What is my sanity?". Specific questions like "Hide and Seek" or using the board until it shatters can trigger a Cursed Hunt. |
Haunted Mirror | Reveals the ghost's current favorite room/area when looked into. If the mirror shatters, a Cursed Hunt will start. |
Music Box | Forces the ghost to appear during a special event when played. Prolonged use can trigger a Cursed Hunt. |
Summoning Circle | Summons and traps the ghost inside the circle by lighting the candles. This always triggers a Cursed Hunt unless a Tier 3 Crucifix is used. |
Voodoo Doll | Forces ghost interactions by pressing pins into the doll. Pushing the pin into the heart triggers a Cursed Hunt. |
Monkey Paw | Grants a limited number of wishes that can affect the ghost or environment. Certain wishes can severely impair or trap the player. |
The effectiveness and safety of Cursed Objects vary, with some being less risky and more beneficial in different scenarios. Availability depends on your chosen game mode and difficulty settings.

The Haunted Mirror is the safest and most advantageous Cursed Object to use. It reveals the ghost's favorite room/area, helping you quickly locate the ghost and set up your equipment. However, limit its use to a few seconds to avoid a significant sanity drop and the risk of triggering a Cursed Hunt if the mirror shatters.

The Ouija Board, the first Cursed Object introduced, remains reliable. It can directly ask the ghost about its location and the bone's whereabouts, aiding in achieving the "Perfect Investigation" bonus. Be cautious, as specific questions or prolonged use can trigger a Cursed Hunt.

Though intimidating, the Voodoo Doll is useful for triggering ghost interactions, particularly when evidence is hard to come by. Each pin press elicits an interaction, but avoid the heart pin to prevent a Cursed Hunt.
