Deadpool's Final Marvel Massacre: Trilogy Concludes

by Christian Mar 14,2025

2011's Deadpool Kills the Marvel Universe lived up to its name, showcasing Wade Wilson's descent into madness as he slaughtered Marvel heroes and villains. This popularity led to a sequel, 2017's Deadpool Kills the Marvel Universe Again, by writer Cullen Bunn and artist Dalibor Talajić. Now, the duo returns for the trilogy's finale: Deadpool Kills the Marvel Universe One Last Time, where Deadpool's carnage expands across the entire Marvel multiverse.

IGN recently interviewed Bunn, revealing that while he initially didn't plan a trilogy, the idea of Deadpool tackling the multiverse naturally followed. His initial pitches included variations like "Deadpool Kills the Marvel Cosmic Universe" and "Deadpool's Secret Wars," showcasing his expansive vision for the character. The multiverse provided a perfect canvas to escalate the conflict, pitting Deadpool against countless variant heroes and villains, from Cap-Wolves to Worldbreaker Hulks.

The challenge of escalating the conflict was met by embracing the multiverse's vast possibilities. Bunn researched "the best" (and "worst") versions of Marvel heroes and villains, resulting in what he considers the most epic Deadpool story yet. He remains tight-lipped about specific matchups, teasing only the inclusion of obscure characters unseen in over 30 years.

Artist Dalibor Talajić's contributions are highlighted, with his stylistic shifts in Deadpool Kills the Marvel Universe Again contrasting brutal violence with Deadpool's sanitized internal perspective. This visual flair continues in the finale, showcasing different versions of heroes and a never-before-seen interpretation of [REDACTED].

While the first two books offered distinct reasons for Deadpool's rampage (nihilism and brainwashing), this installment stands alone, though observant readers may find connections to previous events. Bunn describes this Deadpool as more sympathetic, framing his actions in a way that might even elicit reader support for his mission. He emphasizes the unique mental state of this Deadpool as a key differentiator in the story.

Deadpool Kills the Marvel Universe One Last Time #1 releases April 2nd, 2025.
