In a surprising turn of events, Second Dinner, the developer behind the popular game Marvel Snap, has officially severed ties with their previous publisher, Nuverse. This decision comes in the aftermath of Marvel Snap being abruptly removed from app stores, a move that was part of the broader impact from the Bytedance TikTok ban. Second Dinner announced via their official Twitter that they are now partnering with the US-based publisher Skystone Games, marking a significant shift in their publishing strategy.
This development concludes a tumultuous period for several games published by Nuverse and other Bytedance subsidiaries, including Mobile Legends: Bang Bang and Marvel Snap. These games were caught in the crossfire of Bytedance's strategic maneuver to navigate the TikTok ban, which was initiated a few weeks ago. The then president-elect Donald Trump had promised to reinstate service for the affected apps, reversing his earlier stance on banning Bytedance's flagship app, TikTok. While TikTok quickly returned to service, other gaming apps faced prolonged disruptions.
Second Dinner found themselves particularly blindsided by the removal of Marvel Snap from app stores, with no prior notification from Nuverse. The developer has been working tirelessly over the past few weeks to restore service to their game. The sudden and unexpected disruption likely played a significant role in Second Dinner's decision to part ways with Nuverse.
It's not surprising that Second Dinner chose to move away from Nuverse. While Bytedance's strategy with TikTok proved successful for them, it's clear that such abrupt actions have not been well-received by developers whose games were affected. The swift transition to Skystone Games suggests that Nuverse may be facing significant repercussions from the developer community.
While it's easy to delve into discussions about geopolitics, the more pressing issue is whether Bytedance's focus on saving TikTok has undermined their gaming ventures. Second Dinner's move away from Nuverse seems to indicate a belief that it has. As the dust settles, Marvel Snap fans eager to return to the game can benefit from our tier lists to get back up to speed.
