"Dragon Age: The Veilguard Director Leaves BioWare"

by Anthony Mar 24,2025

Corinne Busche, who served as the game director for Dragon Age: The Veilguard from February 2022 until its launch last year, is reportedly set to leave EA-owned BioWare in the coming weeks. This news comes from Eurogamer, and IGN has reached out to EA for further comment.

Since its release in October last year, there have been ongoing discussions about the success of Dragon Age: The Veilguard. Despite Busche's departure, Eurogamer indicates that the studio remains unaffected by other changes. Busche joined BioWare in 2019 after working at Maxis on various The Sims projects. Her role as director was crucial in steering Dragon Age: The Veilguard to completion, especially during its final years of development, which followed a tumultuous decade that included a significant shift from a multiplayer framework to a full-blown single-player RPG.

Eurogamer clarifies that Busche's exit is not connected to the game's commercial performance, though EA has not yet disclosed whether Dragon Age: The Veilguard's sales and revenue met or exceeded expectations. The company is set to report its Q3 2025 financial results on February 4.

BioWare has confirmed that there are no plans for Dragon Age: The Veilguard DLC, as the studio shifts its focus to Mass Effect 5, which has been teased but not fully revealed. In August 2023, coinciding with the release of Larian's Baldur's Gate 3, BioWare laid off around 50 employees, including veteran narrative designer Mary Kirby, who had been with the studio since the inception of Dragon Age.

These layoffs were part of a broader internal shakeup at EA, which saw the company split into sports and non-sports divisions. Rumors also circulated about BioWare being acquired, and Star Wars: The Old Republic was transitioned to a third-party to allow BioWare to concentrate on Mass Effect and Dragon Age.

The journey of Dragon Age: The Veilguard continued with its reveal in 2024. The initial reveal trailer received negative feedback, prompting BioWare to release an early gameplay tease shortly after. The name change from Dreadwolf to The Veilguard also met with mixed reactions. However, subsequent impressions were generally positive.

With Busche's departure and the studio's focus shifting to Mass Effect 5, fans of Dragon Age are left wondering if BioWare will have the opportunity to develop another sequel in the series.
