The ninth anniversary of Fate/Grand Order was marred by controversy surrounding a significant update. The introduction of powerful new skills, requiring an increased number of "servant coins" to unlock, ignited a furious backlash from players. Previously, maxing out a five-star character needed six copies; the update increased this to eight, or nine to avoid an extensive grind. The developer's response, including providing 40 free pulls, felt more like damage control than a lasting solution. The eight-duplicate requirement for maxing out five-star servants remains a significant hurdle for completionists. Players are questioning the developers' commitment to previous promises of increased servant coin availability.

The Fate/Grand Order anniversary debacle highlights the crucial balance developers must strike between monetization and player satisfaction. While the immediate fury may have subsided thanks to the compensation, the damage to developer-player trust is significant.
