Should You Free Ilora in Avowed?

by Victoria Mar 15,2025

Early in *Avowed*, you face a crucial decision: free the suspicious prisoner Ilora from Fort Northreach or leave her fate sealed. Your ultimate goal is to use her boat to reach Paradis, but the choice of freeing or abandoning Ilora significantly impacts your journey. This guide explores the ramifications of each path.

While *Avowed* encourages roleplaying your character authentically, freeing Ilora is strongly recommended. This choice simplifies navigating Fort Northreach and unlocks a future side quest.

Should You Free or Leave Ilora?

Freeing Ilora is the advantageous path.

Freeing Ilora provides invaluable assistance in overcoming Fort Northreach's challenges, including defeating Steadman Ralke, the area boss. Early in the game, your resources are limited, making Ilora's aid crucial. Furthermore, this act of kindness unlocks the "Escape Plan" side quest later, significantly easing its completion.

How to Free Ilora

Ilora reveals the key to her cell is located in the Warden's Room. Access this room by approaching the hallway's end, climbing crates, jumping to the adjacent platform, and entering the passage above. Break through the boards on your right to descend into the Warden's Room. The key is near the door. Regardless of your choice regarding Ilora, use the key to unlock the adjacent cell and obtain the Deerskin Gloves.

What Happens If You Don’t Free Ilora in Avowed?

Choosing not to free Ilora significantly increases the difficulty of Fort Northreach and the "Escape Plan" side quest. You'll face a more challenging escape, as you'll ultimately encounter Ilora as an enemy. However, this path does offer the opportunity to loot her body after defeating her.

Ultimately, the decision rests with you. *Avowed* is available now.
