GTA 6 Trailer 2: Release Date Confirmed for PS5 and Xbox, PC Not Mentioned

With the release of Grand Theft Auto VI Trailer 2 and a major update to its official website, all attention has shifted to the confirmed launch platforms alongside the newly announced release date of May 26, 2026.

At the conclusion of the trailer, the release date appears alongside logos for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, officially confirming that these consoles will be the initial platforms for GTA 6. Notably, the trailer was captured on a PS5—specifically labeled as PS5, not PS5 Pro—highlighting the focus on current-gen systems.

This omission aligns with Rockstar’s established pattern for past releases, but in 2025—and especially in 2026—it risks feeling out of step with modern gaming trends. Given the growing significance of PC as a key platform for multiplatform success, is GTA 6’s console-only launch a strategic misstep?

IGN posed this very question to Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick during a February interview. While he didn’t confirm a simultaneous PC release, he did hint at an eventual launch on PC.

“With Civilization 7, it's available on console, PC, and Switch right away,” Zelnick noted, referencing Firaxis’ latest title. “But for other games in our lineup, we don’t always launch across all platforms at once. Historically, Rockstar has started with certain platforms and then expanded to others over time.”

Fans have long observed Rockstar’s reluctance to release its major titles on PC at the same time as consoles, as well as its complicated history with the modding community. Still, many had hoped that a landmark title like GTA 6 could mark a shift in the studio’s approach to PC gaming.

While major Rockstar games do eventually make their way to PC, the lingering question is: how long will PC players have to wait? If not May 2026, then when? Could it be fall 2027? Early 2027? Or even a full year later, in May 2027?

Back in December 2023, a former Rockstar developer [ttpp]attempted to explain why GTA 6 is coming to PC after its PS5 and Xbox Series X|S launch[/ttpp], urging PC gamers to give the studio the “benefit of the doubt” regarding its release strategy.

But just how significant could it be to delay the PC version? Zelnick emphasized that for multiplatform titles, the PC release can account for up to 40% of total sales—or even more, depending on the game.

“We’ve seen PC become an increasingly vital part of what was once a predominantly console-focused business,” Zelnick said. “I wouldn’t be surprised if that trend continues. Of course, a new console generation is also on the horizon.”

As for the Nintendo Switch 2, there’s no sign of its logo in GTA 6 Trailer 2—hardly a surprise. While the exact capabilities of the Switch 2 remain under wraps, the fact that it’s set to run Cyberpunk 2077 has fueled hope that GTA 6—which is confirmed for the less powerful Xbox Series S—might also come to Nintendo’s next console. For now, though, there’s no indication that will happen.
