Housemarque's Saros: Returnal Successor Set for 2026

by Max Mar 14,2025

Housemarque, the studio behind the acclaimed 2022 roguelite shooter Returnal, has unveiled its next project: Saros. Starring Rahul Kohli, this PlayStation 5 exclusive is slated for a 2026 release and will be enhanced for the PS5 Pro.

Unveiled during today's PlayStation State of Play, Saros immediately evokes the signature Housemarque style. Players step into the shoes of Arjun Devraj, a Solatri enforcer investigating a perilous, ever-shifting planet shrouded in an eclipse and menaced by a formidable, colossal entity. The game's atmosphere and the phrase "come back stronger," heavily suggest a roguelike structure, while the fiery projectiles hint at Housemarque's renowned bullet-hell mechanics.

PlayCreative director Gregory Louden describes *Saros* as the "ultimate evolution" of Housemarque's gameplay-focused design philosophy. While a new single-player IP, it builds upon the third-person action established in *Returnal*.

However, Saros isn't simply a rehash. According to Louden on the PlayStation Blog, a key difference lies in permanent progression and resources. While the world dynamically alters upon player death, as is typical of the genre, players will also accumulate permanent upgrades for their weapons and suits.

Housemarque plans to showcase extended gameplay footage later this year, promising more details then.
