Jason Momoa Hints at Lobo's Appearance in Supergirl Film: 'We Look Spot On'

Jason Momoa, renowned for his portrayal of Aquaman in the now-defunct DC Extended Universe (DCEU), is set to bring his favorite comic book character, Lobo, to life in the upcoming 2026 DC Universe (DCU) movie, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. Lobo, an iconic alien interstellar mercenary and bounty hunter from the planet Czarnia, possesses superhuman strength and immortality, making him a formidable figure in the DC Universe. Created by Roger Slifer and Keith Giffen, Lobo first appeared in Omega Men #3 in 1983, and like Superman, he is the last survivor of his now-dead world.

Momoa's enthusiasm for the role is palpable, as he has long admired the character and sees aesthetic similarities between himself and Lobo. In a recent interview with ScreenRant, Momoa expressed his excitement and slight nervousness about portraying Lobo, emphasizing the character's rough and gruff nature. He teased that fans can expect a visually accurate portrayal, complete with a cool bike, but warned that Lobo's screen time would be brief as the movie primarily focuses on Supergirl.

From Aquaman to Lobo, Jason Momoa is crossing DC universes.

In January, DC co-chief James Gunn shared the first glimpse of Milly Alcock as Supergirl, although the image was quite revealing. Gunn announced via Bluesky that filming had started on Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, featuring Milly Alcock, known for her role in House of the Dragon, as Kara Zor-El, aka Supergirl. The movie draws heavily from the graphic novel of the same name by Tom King, Bilquis Evely, and Ana Norgueira. This standalone story follows an alien girl named Ruthye Marye Knoll who seeks Supergirl's help to avenge her father's murder by the villain Krem of the Yellow Hills.

The cast also includes Matthias Schoenaerts as Krem, Eve Ridley as Ruthye, David Krumholtz as Supergirl's father Zor-El, and Emily Beecham as Supergirl's mother. Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow is slated for release in June 2026, following James Gunn's Superman, which will hit theaters this summer. The DCU's Clayface movie is scheduled for September 2026.
