After three years of dedicated development, incorporating extensive player feedback, and diligently addressing bugs, Longvinter has triumphantly exited early access on Steam with the launch of version 1.0. The developers have proudly announced this significant milestone, accompanied by a plethora of updates designed to invigorate the experience for both new adventurers and seasoned veterans alike.
The most notable addition in this comprehensive update is the introduction of oil rigs scattered across the archipelago. Players now have the opportunity to extract oil, refine it into fuel, and engage in thrilling battles against mercenaries from the notorious Longvinter Resource Industries (LRI), who control crucial supply lines. Alongside these new mechanics, exciting events have been added to the mix, such as helicopter crashes that offer tactical gear and an underground arena where players can compete for valuable rewards every hour.
The game world itself has become richer and more immersive with the introduction of new wildlife, including lynxes, wolves, wolverines, foxes, moose, and goats. These creatures can be tamed and utilized as mounts, adding a new layer of exploration and interaction. The update also brings a variety of new items to enhance gameplay, such as hats that provide buffs, combat vests, a range of weapons and explosives, new kitchen recipes, and interactive objects for building and decorating. These include oil refineries, refrigerators, microwaves, power poles, and defensive turrets. Additionally, significant changes have been implemented to ensure balanced weapon dynamics.
Looking forward, the eagerly anticipated 1.1 update promises to introduce farming mechanics, a revamped tutorial for beginners, apartment rentals, and shared communities, further enhancing the game's depth and social interaction. Moreover, the developers have confirmed that Longvinter will expand its horizons with a PlayStation release in 2026, bringing this captivating world to a broader audience beyond PC players.
