Lunar Remastered Collection: Release Date Revealed

Summary

  • Lunar Remastered Collection is set to launch on April 18 for PS4, Xbox One, Switch, and PC, with support for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.
  • The collection includes fully voiced dialogue, a classic mode, and quality-of-life features such as faster combat and auto-battle.

The highly anticipated Lunar Remastered Collection is scheduled to launch on April 18, bringing the first two Lunar games to modern consoles. Developed by Game Arts and published by GungHo Online Entertainment, this duology collection will feature updated graphics, re-recorded soundtracks, and several quality-of-life enhancements. The collection will be available across all major console platforms and on PC via Steam.

The announcement of the Lunar Remastered Collection came during a Sony State of Play in 2024, delighting long-time JRPG fans. The Lunar series began with Lunar: The Silver Star on the Sega CD in 1992, followed by Lunar: Eternal Blue in 1994. Both titles were later remade for the PlayStation and Sega Saturn as Lunar: Silver Star Story Complete and Lunar 2: Eternal Blue Complete. The Lunar series is celebrated for its excellence on the Sega Saturn, and the upcoming remastered collection is eagerly awaited by fans.

GungHo Online Entertainment confirmed that Lunar Remastered Collection will launch on April 18 for PS4, Xbox One, Switch, and PC, with compatibility for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. Physical editions will be available in select stores in North America and Europe. The remaster will feature widescreen support, revamped pixel art, and high-definition cutscenes, while also offering a classic mode that recreates the PS1-era graphics for nostalgic players.

In addition to graphical updates, the collection will include fully voiced dialogue in Japanese and English, with new French and German subtitles. Gameplay enhancements include a speed-up command for combat and new strategies for auto-battle, designed to streamline party management. These features align with current trends in JRPG remasters, similar to those seen in Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake and the upcoming Suikoden 1 & 2 HD Remaster.

The Lunar series is part of a growing trend of classic JRPGs being revitalized for modern platforms. While the commercial success of Lunar Remastered Collection remains to be seen, the previous collaboration between Game Arts and GungHo Online Entertainment on the Grandia HD Collection suggests a positive outlook for this new release.
