Marvel Comics is relaunching its flagship Captain America series with an all-new creative team and a captivating storyline focusing on Steve Rogers' early days post-thaw. This exciting new chapter will even feature Captain America's very first encounter with the iconic Doctor Doom!
As announced at the ComicsPro retailer convention, the series will be penned by Chip Zdarsky (Batman, Daredevil) and illustrated by Valerio Schiti (G.O.D.S., The Avengers), with vibrant colors by Frank D'Armata. This marks a reunion for the trio, who previously collaborated on 2017's Marvel 2-in-One.

The story kicks off shortly after Steve Rogers' rediscovery and reintegration into the modern Marvel Universe. His first mission as a re-enlisted soldier involves teaming up with the Howling Commandos to infiltrate a newly Doom-controlled Latveria. While the series will eventually transition to present-day Marvel continuity, the events of this initial arc will significantly impact Zdarsky and Schiti's overarching narrative.
"I've been a huge Captain America fan for decades," Zdarsky shared in a statement. "I loved writing the grizzled, older Cap in Avengers: Twilight, so getting to write the actual Captain America title feels like a dream! We're exploring Cap's early days in the modern era with a twist that I think will really surprise readers! I'm incredibly excited to share this with the world, especially with Valerio and Frank's amazing art!"
He continued, "I've approached this title similarly to my Daredevil run, focusing on getting inside Cap's head, offering a grounded, human perspective on who he is in this new world. Steve Rogers represents the best of us, and I want that to shine through on every page."
"Captain America is one of my all-time favorites," Schiti added. "Reuniting with Chip Zdarsky and Frank D'Armata after our fantastic experience on Marvel 2-In-One is amazing. We're crafting a story that perfectly blends heart, action, and entertainment! But what's most unexpected and exciting is how much I found myself thinking about Steve Rogers, not just Captain America."
Schiti further explained, "Chip's script is so clever and compelling that I'm confident readers will be drawn into Steve's heart and soul. He's a man who embodies truth, justice, and freedom. He fought against Nazism, 'died' in that war, and returned to continue his duty. That's immense pressure, and considering the era we're exploring, he's only in his late twenties!"
Captain America #1 will hit shelves on July 2, 2025.
