Marvel SNAP: The Best Moonstone Deck

by Riley Mar 14,2025

Quick Links

Moonstone, Marvel Snap's newest Ongoing card, copies the effects of your other 1-, 2-, and 3-cost Ongoing cards in her lane. Think of her as a boosted Mystique. However, building a successful deck around this powerful but vulnerable card—often called "the Glass Cannon"—requires careful strategy. After extensive testing, the two most effective Moonstone decks are Patriot and Tribunal-based. This guide details building and optimizing both. A brief review at the end helps you decide if Moonstone is right for your collection.

Moonstone (4–6)

Ongoing: Ongoing: Has the Ongoing effects of your 1, 2, and 3-Cost cards here.

Series: Five (Ultra Rare)

Season: Dark Avengers

Release: January 15, 2025

The Best Deck for Moonstone

Moonstone excels as a support card, not the primary win condition. A reliable strategy uses her in a Patriot-Ultron deck, focusing on copying one or two key Ongoing effects rather than over-relying on her ability.

This Moonstone/Patriot/Ultron deck includes: Brood, Mystique, Dazzler, Mockingbird, Ant-Man, Iron Man, Squirrel Girl, Blue Marvel, and Mister Sinister.

Moonstone Deck Synergies

  • Set up buffs by playing Brood, Sinister, or Squirrel Girl.
  • Use one lane for Patriot, Mystique, and Moonstone (ideally in that order).
  • Play Ultron in the final round to maximize buffed power across locations.
  • Iron Man, Blue Marvel, and Mockingbird provide backup power if needed.

An Alternative Deck for Moonstone

For a more exciting, albeit less consistent, strategy, pair Moonstone with Onslaught and The Living Tribunal. Here, Moonstone becomes a key win condition. Include: Onslaught, Living Tribunal, Mystique, Magik, Psylocke, Sera, Iron Man, Ravonna Renslayer, Captain America, Howard the Duck, and Iron Lad.

Ideal Play:

  1. Use Psylocke to play Moonstone early.
  2. Play Onslaught, Mystique, and Iron Man in her lane.
  3. In the final round, distribute power across lanes using The Living Tribunal.

Psylocke and Sera provide cost reduction, enabling earlier plays. Magik extends the game, allowing Onslaught and The Living Tribunal to be played. Captain America and Iron Lad act as backup if key cards aren't drawn. While many predicted a Moonstone-Onslaught-Tribunal meta, Super Skrull proved a significant counter.

How to Counter Moonstone

Super Skrull effectively counters Moonstone. Since her release, many players have included him, anticipating Moonstone decks. Enchantress, Rogue, and Echo also neutralize her.

Moonstone's weakness is her reliance on her own lane. Unless protected by Invisible Woman, Enchantress, Echo, Rogue, or Super Skrull in another lane easily disrupt her strategy.

Is Moonstone Worth It?

Moonstone is a worthwhile Spotlight Key investment because: 1) Her ability will become more valuable with future Ongoing card releases; 2) She's in a Spotlight Cache with two other Series Five cards, minimizing the risk of poor pulls; and 3) She's a nostalgic addition to Marvel Snap, offering exciting combo potential. If you enjoy powerful board-altering combos, Moonstone is a great addition.
