Marvel's New Avengers: Doomsday & Secret Wars Lineup Revealed

by Mia Mar 14,2025

The MCU has dramatically shifted since Avengers: Endgame. The Avengers team, as we knew it, is no more. While new heroes are emerging to fill the void left by Iron Man and Captain America, a full-fledged Avengers movie remains some time away. Even Captain America: Brave New World doesn't reunite Earth's Mightiest Heroes.

It's not until Phase 6, with the back-to-back releases of Avengers: Doomsday (2026) and Avengers: Secret Wars (2027), that we'll see the Avengers assemble again. But who will answer the call? Let's explore the likely candidates for Phase 6's Avengers roster.

Who Will Be the New Avengers in the MCU?

Wong

With Tony Stark and Steve Rogers absent, Benedict Wong's Wong has become the MCU's unifying force in Phases 4 and 5. His appearances span numerous post-Endgame projects, including Spider-Man: No Way Home, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, not to mention his memorable friendship with Madisynn in She-Hulk.

We've arguably entered "Phase Wong," as he's inherited the Sorcerer Supreme mantle. His proactive defense of the world against emerging threats positions him perfectly to rally the Avengers when the time comes.

Shang-Chi

Simu Liu's Shang-Chi is almost certain to join the Avengers in Phase 6. His summoning by Wong in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, coupled with Destin Daniel Cretton's initial involvement with Avengers: The Kang Dynasty (before directorial changes), strongly suggests significant plans for Shang-Chi's future. His mastery of the Ten Rings makes him a valuable asset, and the mid-credits scene in The Legend of the Ten Rings hints at a larger mystery potentially relevant to Avengers: Doomsday.

Doctor Strange

While Wong is Sorcerer Supreme, Stephen Strange remains crucial. His experience in magic and the multiverse makes him an invaluable asset. Currently assisting Clea in another universe with the Incursion problem, his absence before Doomsday may be a setup for his return to face Doctor Doom alongside the Avengers.

Captain America

No Avengers roster is complete without a Captain America. Anthony Mackie's Sam Wilson has taken up the mantle. The Falcon and the Winter Soldier showed his reluctant acceptance, and Captain America: Brave New World details his evolution. The film sets him up as a key figure in reassembling the Avengers, though his leadership will likely be tested.

War Machine

Don Cheadle's War Machine is evolving into a solo hero, as seen in the upcoming Armor Wars. His experience and firepower make him a natural fit for the Avengers, filling the void left by Iron Man. The events of Secret Invasion further establish his importance.

Ironheart

Dominique Thorne's Riri Williams is a prime candidate to become the MCU's new Iron Man. Her debut in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever showcased her intellect and technological prowess. Ironheart will further solidify her heroic identity, making her ready for the Avengers by Avengers: Doomsday.

Spider-Man

Tom Holland's Spider-Man remains a flagship hero, despite his decision to remain anonymous. His involvement in Doomsday and Secret Wars seems likely, though the world's amnesia regarding his identity presents a challenge. A possible solution involves Wong, who may be the only one who still knows Spider-Man's secret.

She-Hulk

While Hulk's role may be more supporting, Tatiana Maslany's She-Hulk is poised to become a powerhouse Avenger. Her intelligence, strength, and unique personality make her a strong addition.

The Marvels

Brie Larson's Captain Marvel, Teyonah Parris' Monica Rambeau, and Iman Vellani's Kamala Khan, having formed their own team, are likely to play significant roles in the next Avengers movies. Captain Marvel's leadership qualities and the mysteries surrounding Monica and Kamala's futures suggest key involvement.

How Many Avengers Is Too Many?

The potential Avengers roster for Avengers: Doomsday is substantial. The MCU might adopt the comic book model of multiple teams or larger pools of heroes, with smaller groups tackling individual threats.

Hawkeye & Kate Bishop

Jeremy Renner's Hawkeye and Hailee Steinfeld's Kate Bishop offer crucial archery skills. Renner's potential return and Kate's post-credits scene interaction with Kamala in The Marvels suggest their involvement.

Thor

Thor, potentially with Love, could be a crucial member, carrying the torch from the original Avengers. The Thor: Love and Thunder ending positions him perfectly for a return.

The Ant-Man Family

Given Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania's connection to Kang, their continued involvement in Avengers: Doomsday is likely, especially given the Quantum Realm's significance.

Play

Star-Lord

Star-Lord's return to Earth in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 positions him for a possible role in Avengers: Doomsday, though his leadership style might clash with others.

Play

Black Panther

With Shuri as the new Black Panther, Wakanda's resources and technology remain vital assets to the Avengers. M'Baku's role as the new monarch also adds another layer to Wakanda's involvement.
