Nintendo Switch 2 Image Reveals C Button on Joy-Con

by Leo Apr 17,2025

Nintendo has officially confirmed the presence of the mysterious new button on the Nintendo Switch 2's Joy-Con, putting an end to speculation by revealing it to be the C button, as previously rumored. This confirmation comes courtesy of the newly released Nintendo Today! app, which features an image on both the App Store and Google Play store listings that clearly displays the letter "C" on the button.

The C button was first revealed alongside the Nintendo Switch 2 earlier this year, but initial images of the new Joy-Con did not show any letter on the button. Now, with the Nintendo Today! app, the rumors have been substantiated. There is much speculation about the function of this C button, with theories ranging from enabling wireless casting to a TV, screen sharing capabilities, altering Joy-Con functionality to something like mouse mode, or even facilitating new group or voice chat features.

Nintendo has announced a Switch 2 Direct for April 2, which should shed more light on the C button's purpose. In the meantime, here's what we know about the Nintendo Switch 2:

  • The Nintendo Switch 2 is slated for release in 2025, likely not before June based on the hands-on event schedule.
  • The console is larger than its predecessor, with bigger Joy-Con that resemble a mouse in design.
  • It features two USB-C ports, one at the top and one at the bottom, compared to the single port on the original Switch.
  • The Nintendo Switch 2 is backward compatible, capable of playing both physical and digital games from the original Switch, as well as new titles exclusive to the Switch 2. However, some games from the original Switch may not be fully supported.
  • A new Mario Kart game is set to launch for the Nintendo Switch 2.
