Nishino Takes Helm as Sony Interactive CEO, Totoki Rises to Sony CEO

by Mia Apr 15,2025

Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) has announced a significant leadership change, with Hideaki Nishino set to become the sole CEO of SIE effective April 1, 2025. This news comes from a recent press release, which also highlighted broader changes within Sony's corporate structure.

Simultaneously, Sony's CFO, Hiroki Totoki, will ascend to the role of president and CEO of the entire Sony Corporation, replacing Kenichiro Yoshida, who has led the company since April 2018 following Kazuo Hirai. Additionally, Lin Tao, currently the Senior Vice President of Finance, Corporate Development, and Strategy, will step into the CFO position.

Just last year, following the retirement of former SIE CEO Jim Ryan, it was decided that leadership of SIE would be split between Nishino and Hermen Hulst. Hulst took the helm of PlayStation Studios, while Nishino was responsible for hardware and technology. With this new development, Nishino will now oversee the entirety of SIE operations and lead the platform business group, whereas Hulst will continue to focus specifically on PlayStation Studios.

Nishino, who joined Sony in 2000, has a rich history with the company, having previously served as Senior Vice President of the Platform Experience Group.

Expressing his enthusiasm about the new role, Nishino stated, "I am truly honored to take the helm at Sony Interactive Entertainment. Technology and creativity are two of our biggest strengths as we continue to focus on developing experiences that deliver entertainment for everyone. We will continue to grow the PlayStation community in new ways, such as IP expansion, while also delivering the best in technology innovation. I want to thank Hermen for his expertise and leadership as he continues his role as CEO, Studio Business Group. I am deeply grateful for the PlayStation community and their continued support and I am very excited for what the future holds."
