Coastal areas primarily feature ground and water-type Pals; venturing inland is necessary to locate Dark-elemental Pals. Note that some Pals, such as Starryon, are nocturnal unless encountered as boss variants.

Defeating or capturing these Pals (using Ultimate or Exotic Spheres is recommended) yields 1-3 Dark Fragments per encounter. Drops aren't guaranteed, but diligent hunting should provide ample resources.
