Pokemon Scarlet & Violet: How To Catch And Evolve Deino

by Ryan Feb 23,2025

This guide details how to obtain and utilize Hydreigon, a powerful Dark/Dragon-type Pokémon in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. Hydreigon's pre-evolutions, Deino and Zweilous, are exclusive to Pokémon Scarlet, requiring trading or transferring to obtain them in Pokémon Violet.

Acquiring Deino and Zweilous:

  • Pokémon Scarlet: Deino can be found in Alfornada Cavern, Dalizapa Passage, Glaseado Mountain, Area Zero, and North Province (Area Two). Zweilous appears in the same locations, as well as in 4-star Tera Raids (accessible after 3 Gym Badges). Deino also appears in 3-star Tera Raids.

Deino Location

  • Pokémon Violet: Since Deino is Scarlet-exclusive, acquiring it in Violet necessitates trading via the Union Circle (requires Nintendo Switch Online) or transferring from Pokémon HOME from compatible games like Pokémon Scarlet, Pokémon Sword/Shield, or Pokémon GO.
  1. Pokémon HOME Transfer: Move Deino to your HOME Basic Box from your source game.
  2. Open Pokémon Violet in HOME and transfer Deino to a PC Box.

Deino Evolution

Evolution:

Deino evolves into Zweilous at level 50, and Zweilous evolves into Hydreigon at level 64. Utilize auto-battling or Exp. Candies (especially L and XL) to expedite the process.

Hydreigon's Strengths and Weaknesses:

Hydreigon Stats

Hydreigon boasts a base stat total of 600, excelling in Special Attack and Attack with good Speed. A Timid (+Speed, -Attack) or Jolly (+Speed, -Special Attack) Nature is recommended.

  • Type Effectiveness:
    • Strengths: Dragon, Ghost, Psychic
    • Weaknesses: Fairy (4x), Fighting, Bug, Dragon, Ice
    • Resistances: Grass, Water, Fire, Electric, Ghost, Dark
    • Immunities: Ground, Psychic

Hydreigon's significant weakness to Fairy-type moves is mitigated by Terastallizing. Consider using a Steel-type move like Flash Cannon (learnable via TM) to counter this. A Special Attack build, utilizing moves like Nasty Plot, Dragon Pulse (or Draco Meteor), and Dark Pulse, is generally preferred. Hydreigon's movepool allows for both physical and special attack strategies.
