With the Nintendo Switch 2 on the horizon, speculation about its launch lineup is rampant. While an official list remains elusive, we can make educated guesses based on Nintendo's history and recent announcements. Some predictions, like a new Mario game, feel almost certain. But we're also hoping for some exciting surprises from indie developers.

While expecting all these games on day one is wishful thinking, even a partial appearance would make for a stellar launch. Here are our hopeful picks for the Switch 2's debut:
Over a decade since Mario Kart 8's Wii U release, it's become a karting masterpiece, thanks to the Switch's Deluxe Edition and substantial DLC. Its immense success makes a sequel highly probable. Though a "new twist" was rumored in 2022, official confirmation is pending. We hope this "twist" introduces innovative ideas, building on the series' legacy and ensuring another decade of success. A Switch 2 launch title would be a powerful statement.
The Switch surprisingly only boasts one new 3D Mario title (Super Mario Odyssey, 2017) besides a Super Mario 3D World port. The lack of Odyssey DLC further fuels anticipation for a new entry. A new 3D platformer with innovative abilities, level design, and collectibles would be a fantastic launch title, perhaps even alongside a new Mario Kart. Seven years is a long wait for a new 3D Mario adventure.
Metroid Prime 4, first announced in 2017, experienced a lengthy development period, with a shift from Bandai Namco Studios to Retro Studios. Now titled Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, its gameplay reveal showcased smooth action, hinting at a potential Switch 2 release. Ending the long wait with a launch day release would be a triumphant moment for fans.
Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom are Switch juggernauts. Backward compatibility is hoped for, ideally with a performance boost. Enhanced versions taking advantage of the Switch 2's rumored power, offering crisp 4K and smooth framerates, would be a welcome addition.
Nintendo often includes quirky titles at launch. Ring Fit Adventure, a fitness-RPG hybrid, defied expectations, selling over 15 million copies. A sequel showcasing the Switch 2's capabilities would be a unique and potentially successful launch title.
While the original Switch lacked the power for Capcom's Resident Evil 4 Remake, the Switch 2 might offer a home for this acclaimed horror title. A launch day release would be impressive, and there's a certain poetic symmetry in its return to Nintendo after its GameCube debut.
This is a bold prediction. Given the success of Doom (2016) and Doom Eternal on Switch, and Microsoft's platform expansion, a Switch 2 release is not impossible. More information is expected at the Xbox Developer Direct.
Stardew Valley's success on Switch makes The Haunted Chocolatier, its spiritual successor, a strong contender. While a launch day release is uncertain due to the developer's recent comments, a launch year release would still be a significant event.
Earthblade, the successor to Celeste, is another indie title with potential. With a 2025 release window, a Switch 2 launch is within the realm of possibility.
