Split Fiction is designed exclusively for co-op play, with no single-player mode. You can enjoy it in couch co-op split-screen mode or online, requiring only one copy of the game. This feature supports cross-platform play, so you can team up with friends regardless of their gaming platform.
To play online with a friend, have them download the "Split Fiction - Friend’s Pass" from their preferred digital marketplace after the game's release on March 6. This pass is free, allowing your friend to join you in the game at no additional cost once you send them an invite. This system mirrors the successful model used by Hazelight in It Takes Two and A Way Out. Note, however, that your friend will need to pair up with someone who has bought the game to play.
Split Fiction is a thrilling two-player action adventure game where two writers—one specializing in sci-fi and the other in fantasy—are drawn into their own fictional worlds. Players must collaborate to overcome enemies and solve puzzles across levels inspired by both genres. One moment you might be racing on Tron-style motorcycles and manipulating gravity, the next you could be shape-shifting into mythical creatures in a magical forest.
The game also features "side stories" accessible through portals within levels. These are essentially minigames, such as riding a "sand fish" reminiscent of Dune across a desert or water skiing behind a drone over the sea.
