Hiromi Wakai, Sony's VP of Product Management, announced a new PS5 beta update including personalized 3D audio, improved Remote Play options, and adaptive controller charging.

The update's highlight is personalized 3D audio profiles for headphones and earbuds. Users can optimize their audio experience by creating profiles tailored to their hearing. Compatible devices like the Pulse Elite headset and Pulse Explore earbuds offer sound tests to generate these personalized profiles, resulting in more immersive gameplay with improved sound localization.

Enhanced Remote Play settings provide greater control over remote console access. This is particularly beneficial for households with multiple PS5 users, allowing primary users to restrict remote access to specific individuals. Access management is handled via [Settings] > [System] > [Remote Play] > [Enable Remote Play].

Adaptive charging for controllers (on the slim PS5 model) optimizes power consumption by adjusting charging based on battery level during rest mode. Enable this via [Settings] > [System] > [Power Saving] > [Features Available in Rest Mode] > [Supply Power to USB Ports] > [Adaptive]. This conserves energy by cutting power after a period of inactivity.

Beta Program and Global Rollout

Currently, the beta is limited to invited participants in the U.S., Canada, Japan, U.K., Germany, and France. A global release is planned for the coming months. Invited users will receive email invitations with download instructions. Note that beta features may change or be omitted from the final release based on user feedback.
