Rainbow Six Siege X Showcase Unveiled Exciting Updates

Closed Beta Starts March 13, 2025

Ubisoft has officially announced that the Rainbow Six Siege X (R6 Siege X) Closed Beta will commence on March 13, 2025, at 12 PM PT / 3 PM ET / 8 PM CET, immediately following the R6 Siege X Showcase, and will run until March 19, 2025, at the same times.

Gamers can secure their spot in the R6 Siege X Closed Beta by tuning into the R6 Siege X Showcase on the official Rainbow 6 Twitch channel or through various Content Creators' Twitch livestreams, where they can earn Closed Beta Twitch drops. The beta will feature the new Dual Front game mode and will be accessible on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.

Some players, however, have reported not receiving the anticipated email with the access code. Ubisoft Support has acknowledged the issue on Twitter (X) on March 14, and they are actively working to resolve this and send out the emails promptly.

It's crucial to understand that R6 Siege X isn't a standalone sequel but a significant update poised to elevate Siege with extensive graphical and technical enhancements.

Introducing the New 6v6 Game Mode: Dual Front

Ubisoft has launched Dual Front, a dynamic 6v6 game mode that promises to bring substantial upgrades to the core gameplay. This includes visual enhancements, an audio overhaul, improved rappel mechanics, and more, all while revamping player protection systems. Moreover, Dual Front will be free to access, allowing players to immerse themselves in the tactical action of Rainbow Six Siege without any cost.

The action unfolds on a brand-new map called District, where two teams of six Operators will battle to capture enemy sectors while defending their own. This marks a historic first for R6, with both attacking and defending Operators in play simultaneously, fostering new strategies and gadget synergies.

While Dual Front adds a fresh twist, the classic Siege mode remains, now rebranded as "Core Siege" in the main menu. This mode features updated maps including Clubhouse, Chalet, Border, Bank, and Kafe, boasting enhanced textures, optional 4K resolution on PC, and improved destructible materials. Initially, five maps will be updated, with plans to add three more each season.

Free Access Coming in Season 2 of Year 10

Marking a significant shift, Rainbow Six Siege will transition to a free-to-play model starting in Season 2 of Year 10, aligning with trends set by its major competitors. Launched in 2015 amidst a landscape dominated by paid multiplayer games like Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 and Battlefield Hardline, Siege's move to free-to-play reflects the evolution of live-service gaming.

Alexander Karpazis, Siege's Game Director, emphasized during the R6 Siege X Showcase in Atlanta on March 13 the team's intent to welcome new players. He shared with PC Gamer, "We want people to invite their friends to try out Siege, and we want to give them the majority of the game so that they understand what makes this game so special." Karpazis highlighted the social aspect, noting, "That reduces the barrier [to entry], because honestly Siege is at its best when you've got friends playing with you."

Free access will encompass Unranked, Quick Play, and Dual Front modes. However, Ranked mode and the Siege Cup will remain exclusive to players who opt for premium access. This strategy, as explained by former game director Leroy Athanassoff in a 2020 PC Gamer interview, aims to maintain a competitive integrity by deterring smurfs and cheaters. Karpazis added, "It is, in our opinion, the best of both worlds where you can bring in new players but also have this place where veterans feel super competitive and committed to the game."

No Plans for Siege 2

Despite reaching its 10-year milestone, Ubisoft has no plans for a sequel, opting instead to enhance the existing game. Karpazis clarified, "Siege 2 was never on the table. A lot of live service games are starting to go through this process because a lot of them are hitting that 10-year mark." He emphasized the focus on doing what's best for Siege and its players, stating, "We just had to do what was right for Siege and what was right for players as well."

Siege X has been in development for approximately three years, running parallel to Siege's regular seasonal updates. Karpazis described Siege X as a pivotal moment, saying, "Siege X, for us, is a moment where we want to make big, meaningful changes to the game. We want to show that, yes, we're here for another 10 years, and we want to respect the people who brought us here so far."

He underscored the vital role of the community, noting, "You don't get to 10 years as a live service game without the community that built you up."

Rainbow Six Siege X is slated for release on June 10, 2025, across PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Stay tuned for more updates by checking out our dedicated Rainbow Six Siege article below!
