It seems that Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet might provide players with much greater freedom than the studio's previous games. Multiple sources indicate that the developers were influenced by Elden Ring and intend to incorporate similar features related to open-world exploration.
Journalist Ben Hanson states that the game will take place on one large planet, where players will discover the secrets of a lost civilization and explore a new faith, which will be a central part of the narrative. It is still unknown how close the project will come to the traditional open-world concept, but it's clear that the developers are moving away from the linear structure seen in their earlier titles.
The Heretic Prophet will be the studio's first game where the player acts alone, without any companions or allies. As Neil Druckmann explains, the studio wants to create a feeling of isolation in an uncharted universe while also exploring themes of belief and religion. The story is set in an alternate future on the planet Sempiria, which has been isolated from the rest of the galaxy for over 600 years. This is where bounty hunter Jordan Moon arrives as part of her mission.
Druckmann also notes that the game's development was influenced by titles like Half-Life 2 and Monkey Island. This might suggest a move away from traditional hints and a shift toward storytelling where players must gather story fragments on their own.
The game was revealed at TGA 2024 and still does not have an official release date.
