A unique Street Fighter tournament, dubbed "Sleep Fighter," is set to take place in Japan, introducing an innovative twist that emphasizes the importance of sleep for gamers. Organized by SS Pharmaceuticals, a company promoting its sleep-aid drug Drewell, this Capcom-backed event aims to blend competitive gaming with sleep wellness.

Players Need to Start Racking Up Sleep Points a Week Before Tourney

In the "Sleep Fighter" tournament, teams of three players will engage in a "best-of-three" format to accumulate points and advance. However, the twist lies in the "Sleep Points" system, where each team member must log at least six hours of sleep per night in the week leading up to the event. Failure to reach a collective total of 126 sleep hours will result in a penalty of five points for every hour short. Additionally, the team with the highest total sleep time will have the privilege of setting the tournament's match conditions.

SS Pharmaceuticals is using this event to highlight the significance of sleep for optimal performance, aligning with their campaign, "Let's Do the Challenge, Let's Sleep First." This initiative seeks to promote healthy sleeping habits across Japan, making Sleep Fighter the first esports tournament to penalize players for insufficient sleep.
