In May of 2015, Nintendo took a groundbreaking step by announcing a partnership with Universal Parks & Resorts to develop theme parks inspired by their beloved games and characters. This collaboration marked a bold venture into expanding Nintendo's presence within the entertainment industry. A decade later, this ambitious vision has been realized through the creation of Super Nintendo World, a dynamic theme park that offers an immersive experience with a variety of rides, interactive features, themed gift shops, and character-inspired dining in locations such as Japan, Los Angeles, Florida, and soon, Singapore.
As we anticipate the launch of Universal's new Epic Universe theme park in Orlando, Florida, which will include the first-ever Donkey Kong Country expansion in America, I had the privilege of speaking with Shigeru Miyamoto, the legendary game designer behind iconic characters like Super Mario and Donkey Kong. Our conversation delved into the development of these parks, his collaboration with the next generation of Nintendo game developers, and his enthusiasm for the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 console.
