Silent Hill f is set to be playable on the Steam Deck, though it requires some fine-tuning to run smoothly. Dive into the details of Valve's Steam Deck classification for Silent Hill f and explore the game's PC requirements.
Valve's thorough testing has confirmed that Silent Hill f can indeed be played on the Steam Deck. However, it falls short of the "verified" status, meaning some adjustments are necessary to ensure full compatibility with this handheld powerhouse. To achieve "verified" status, a game must excel in Valve’s stringent checks for input, display, seamlessness, and system support.
Silent Hill f performs well with the default controller configuration and correctly displays Steam Deck controller icons. Yet, the in-game text size poses a readability challenge, and some manual tweaks are needed for optimal performance. This marks a significant step forward from the Silent Hill 2 Remake, which initially lacked Steam Deck support despite subsequent patches. As Konami has not yet announced a release date for Silent Hill f, there remains ample opportunity for further optimization.
Konami unveiled the PC system requirements for Silent Hill f last month via its Steam store page, providing a clear picture of how the game might perform on the Steam Deck. Below is a detailed breakdown of the game's minimum and recommended specifications.
For the minimum specs, an NVIDIA GTX 1070 is required to run the game at 720p and 30fps on Performance Quality settings. Given the Steam Deck's GPU capabilities, players might experience a slight performance dip compared to these minimum PC requirements. While running the game at 720p on the Steam Deck could be manageable, the difference becomes more apparent when connected to higher-resolution displays like HD TVs. Konami also recommends using an SSD for improved performance.
The recommended specs allow for either Performance settings at 60fps or Quality settings at 30fps, both of which necessitate an SSD.
The recent Silent Hill Transmission on March 13 offered fans a glimpse into what Silent Hill f has in store. The game is currently available for wishlisting on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
