Hollow Knight: Silksong continues to be a topic of intense interest and speculation among fans, and Team Cherry’s Marketing and PR Manager, Matthew Griffin, has stepped in to provide some much-needed reassurance. Let's dive into the latest updates and fan reactions!
Following recent rumors sparked by a seemingly innocuous cake-themed profile picture change by Hollow Knight co-creator William Pellen, fans were on the edge of their seats. The change led to speculation about an upcoming announcement or even an ARG related to Silksong, possibly hinting at a release on the Nintendo Switch 2. However, YouTuber fireb0rn reached out to Griffin, only to discover that the cake was merely a "nothingburger"—a harmless change with no deeper meaning. Fireb0rn shared, "Apologies to have misled everyone. The cake was a lie."
Yet, amidst the confusion, Griffin took to X (formerly Twitter) to reaffirm the fans' hopes, stating, "Yes the game is real, progressing and will release." This statement marks the first significant update on Silksong's progress in over a year and a half, providing a glimmer of hope to the eager community.
Silksong was first unveiled in February 2019 and was originally expected to launch in the first half of 2023. However, Team Cherry announced in May 2023 that the release would be delayed, as the game had "gotten quite big," necessitating more time to polish it to their standards. The game promises a fresh adventure in a new kingdom, introducing nearly 150 new enemies and a challenging new difficulty mode, Silk Soul.
As we approach two years since the delay, this small update from Griffin breaks the silence and rekindles fans' anticipation. While some fans are grateful for the update and encouraging Team Cherry not to rush under pressure, others are growing increasingly impatient after nearly six years of waiting, feeling that the information provided is the "bare minimum."
Hollow Knight: Silksong is slated for release on a variety of platforms, including PC, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox One. Players will follow Hornet, the princess-protector of Hallownest, on her epic journey through a new, unfamiliar world as she embarks on a perilous pilgrimage to reach the kingdom's peak. Although no specific release window has been announced yet, fans are urged to stay tuned for further updates and announcements.
