Sony is phasing out PlayStation 4 games from its PlayStation Plus Essentials monthly games and Games Catalog starting January 2026, focusing exclusively on PlayStation 5 titles. This shift was announced alongside February 2025's monthly game reveals on the PlayStation Blog. Sony stated that while PS4 games will no longer be a core benefit, they may occasionally be offered. This change doesn't affect previously acquired games; Games Catalog titles remain playable until their scheduled removal. Sony assures continued evolution of PlayStation Plus, emphasizing benefits like exclusive discounts, online multiplayer, and cloud saves. The company's focus on PS5 reflects the growing player base transitioning to the newer console and their preference for PS5 titles.
