Story and Launch Details

According to Compulsion Games' narrative designer, Zaire Lanier, South of Midnight unfolds in the fictional town of Prospero, a blend of Southern locales. The story begins with protagonist Hazel's desperate search for her mother after a devastating hurricane. This quest leads her to uncover her own mystical heritage as a Weaver, a being capable of manipulating the threads of fate.

The game's narrative is interwoven with fantastical creatures from Southern myths. A key encounter with Catfish, a giant talking creature, reveals Hazel's powers and sets her on a path to confront the Haints – corrupted beings spreading decay. Hazel must master her Weaving abilities to purify them and restore balance.

Early access is granted on April 3rd, 2025, with the Premium Edition ($49.99) on Steam and the Xbox Store. The standard edition ($39.99) launches on April 8th, 2025, and will also be available on Game Pass.
