Splitgate 2 announced its Open Alpha Playtest during Sony's February 2025 State of Play event. The playtest officially ran from February 27th to March 3rd, 2025. Unlike the previous PC-only Closed Alpha, this Open Alpha was available on PC (via Steam), PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.
No registration was necessary; everyone was free to join. As detailed in the official press release, the test introduced new maps, weapons, game modes, and even a large-scale 8v8v8 multiplayer battle.
Refer to the timetable below for the exact start and end times of the Open Alpha Playtest:
Splitgate 2's Closed Alpha Playtest concluded on August 25, 2024, having started on August 21st of the same year. Access was limited to invited participants and those who secured Alpha keys. Keys could be obtained by clicking "Request Access" on the game's Steam page or by watching designated Twitch streams for two hours to earn Twitch Drops.
While this initial Alpha was exclusive to PC, the developers confirmed that future Alpha tests in 2025 would expand to include PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.
