Stellar Blade, initially a PlayStation exclusive, is officially coming to PC in 2025! This announcement follows earlier speculation and confirms the developer SHIFT UP's plans for platform expansion. Learn more about the PC release date and potential PSN requirements below.
PC Release Confirmed for 2025
SHIFT UP's confirmation came in response to investor inquiries regarding platform expansion. The developer cited the growing PC gaming market and the success of titles like Black Myth: Wukong as key factors in their decision. While a specific release date remains unannounced, SHIFT UP plans to maintain the game's popularity through ongoing marketing, including a collaboration DLC with NieR: Automata (releasing November 20th) and the much-requested Photo Mode.
Potential PSN Requirement Raises Concerns
Stellar Blade's PC release joins a trend of PlayStation exclusives making their way to PC. However, this trend has also introduced a controversial practice: requiring players to link their Steam accounts to their PlayStation Network (PSN) accounts. This could potentially exclude players in regions without PSN access.
Sony's stated reason for this is to ensure the "safe" enjoyment of their live-service games. However, the application of this requirement to single-player titles like the Horizon series has raised questions.
Whether Stellar Blade will necessitate a PSN account for PC remains unclear. Since SHIFT UP retains ownership of the IP, the requirement might not be enforced. However, such a requirement could significantly impact PC sales, potentially hindering SHIFT UP's goal of exceeding console sales.
Stay tuned for further updates on the Stellar Blade PC release date and PSN account requirements. In the meantime, read our review for a deeper dive into the game's initial release!
