Tekken 8 Director Rebukes Fan Over Anna Williams Design Criticism

by Jacob Mar 13,2025

Tekken 8 veteran Anna Williams's redesign is generating mixed reactions. While many fans applaud the update, some are less enthusiastic, with comparisons to Santa Claus surfacing due to her new coat.

Tekken's director, Katsuhiro Harada, responded sharply to criticism requesting a return to Anna's previous design. He emphasized that the old design remains accessible and that the redesign is well-received by the majority. He also challenged the critics' claim to represent all Anna fans, highlighting the inconsistency in their complaints and the disrespect shown towards those positively anticipating the new design. He further dismissed a comment linking the lack of older game re-releases with functional netcode to his response as "a pointless reply."

Positive feedback focuses on aspects like Anna's new personality and the overall design, with some suggesting the coat is the main point of contention. Concerns include the coat's resemblance to Santa Claus attire, a perceived shift in Anna's age and demeanor, and the overall busy design of the outfit. Negative comments cite the coat and excessive accessories, resulting in a lack of a clear focal point.

Despite the mixed reactions, Tekken 8's sales are booming, surpassing Tekken 7's sales trajectory significantly. IGN's review praised the game's updated fighting system, offline modes, new characters, training tools, and online experience, awarding it a 9/10 score.
