Tingle's Creator Picks His Ideal Actor for the Upcoming Zelda Movie
The highly anticipated Legend of Zelda live-action film has sparked much speculation. While casting for Link and Zelda dominates headlines, the question of who will portray the eccentric Tingle remains. Takaya Imamura, Tingle's creator, recently shared his top choice for the role.
Forget Jason Momoa or Jack Black – Imamura's pick is Masi Oka, renowned for his role as Hiro Nakamura in the TV series Heroes. In an interview with VGC, Imamura stated, "Masi Oka. You know the TV series Heroes? The Japanese character who goes ‘yatta!’, I’d like him to do it."
Oka's performance as Hiro, known for its comedic timing and infectious energy, aligns perfectly with Tingle's personality. The similarity between Hiro's signature "yatta!" pose and Tingle's poses in various artwork further strengthens this casting suggestion. Oka's diverse filmography, ranging from action films like Bullet Train and The Meg to the critically acclaimed Hawaii Five-O, showcases his versatility.
Whether director Wes Ball will heed Imamura's suggestion and include Tingle in the film remains uncertain. However, Ball's description of the film as a "live-action Miyazaki" film suggests a whimsical tone that could accommodate Tingle's unique character.
Announced in November 2023, the Legend of Zelda live-action movie is directed by Wes Ball and produced by Shigeru Miyamoto and Avi Arad. Ball's commitment to creating a "serious movie" that fulfills fan expectations adds another layer of intrigue to the casting discussion. The inclusion of Tingle, and the choice of actor, will be key elements in determining the film's overall tone and reception.
