Mastering the Voodoo Doll in Phasmophobia: A Guide to Cursed Possessions

Phasmophobia's most dangerous ghosts often require equally risky tools for identification, such as Cursed Possessions. The Voodoo Doll is a prime example, offering a potentially high-reward, high-risk gameplay mechanic. This guide explains how to obtain and effectively utilize it.

How to Use the Voodoo Doll in Phasmophobia

The Voodoo Doll's primary function is to provoke the ghost into revealing evidence. By sequentially inserting pins, you encourage ghost activity, making it particularly useful for elusive or quiet spirits. This can expedite the identification of evidence like EMF5 readings or UV fingerprints.

The doll contains ten pins. However, each pin insertion carries a sanity cost of 5%, potentially leading to a 50% sanity reduction if all pins are used, increasing the likelihood of a ghost hunt.

The most significant risk involves the heart pin. Pin placement is random; inserting the heart pin instantly triggers a Cursed Hunt, reducing sanity by 10% and initiating a prolonged (20 seconds longer) ghost hunt near your location.

Despite the inherent risks, the Voodoo Doll's potential for accelerating evidence gathering makes it a worthwhile tool for well-prepared teams.

What Are Cursed Objects (Possessions) in Phasmophobia?

Cursed Possessions (or Cursed Objects) are unique items spawning randomly across Phasmophobia maps, with frequency potentially influenced by difficulty and Challenge Mode.

Unlike standard equipment, which minimizes risk while providing evidence, Cursed Objects offer a shortcut to manipulating the ghost but at a significantly higher risk to your character's sanity. The risk-reward profile varies between objects, allowing players to choose whether or not to utilize them (with no penalty for declining). Only one Cursed Possession typically appears per contract (unless Custom settings are adjusted).

Seven Cursed Objects exist:

  • Haunted Mirror
  • Voodoo Doll
  • Music Box
  • Tarot Cards
  • Ouija Board
  • Monkey Paw
  • Summoning Circle
