Xbox Chief: PlayStation, Nintendo Logos to Stay in Showcases

by Anthony Feb 24,2025

Microsoft's evolving multiplatform strategy is evident in its recent Xbox showcases, where games are now prominently displayed with logos for competing platforms like PlayStation 5. This marks a significant shift from Microsoft's June 2024 showcase, where PS5 appearances were notably absent or delayed. The inclusion of PS5 logos alongside Xbox, PC, and Game Pass in showcases for titles like Ninja Gaiden 4, Doom: The Dark Ages, and Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 exemplifies this new approach.

PS5 logos were absent from Microsoft's June 2024 showcase.

Conversely, Sony and Nintendo maintain a distinct strategy, focusing primarily on their own consoles in their showcases. Recent State of Play events, for instance, omitted any mention of Xbox, even for multiplatform titles like Monster Hunter Wilds, Shinobi: Art of Vengeance, Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, and Onimusha: Way of the Sword. This underscores Sony's commitment to reinforcing the PlayStation brand.

Xbox head Phil Spencer clarified this shift in an interview with XboxEra, emphasizing transparency and the importance of reaching a wider audience. He explained the June 2024 omission as a logistical issue, stating a preference for showcasing games across all available platforms. While acknowledging platform differences, Spencer prioritized accessibility, aiming to make Xbox games available "on every screen we can."

This transparency suggests future Xbox showcases will increasingly feature PS5 and potentially Nintendo Switch 2 logos alongside Xbox. Therefore, Microsoft's anticipated June 2025 showcase might include titles like Gears of War: E-Day, Fable, Perfect Dark, State of Decay 3, and Call of Duty with prominent PS5 branding. However, Sony and Nintendo are unlikely to reciprocate this approach.
