A credible insider suggests that Xbox may announce a Developer Direct presentation tomorrow. These events typically showcase upcoming first-party games for the year. Given Xbox's impressive lineup of titles set to launch in 2025, it's highly likely that the platform holder will host a Developer Direct in the coming weeks.
Xbox's initial Developer Direct took place in January 2023, where Tango Gameworks surprised everyone by shadow-dropping Hi-Fi Rush. The unique format of Xbox Developer Direct involves presentations directly from first-party (and occasionally third-party) studios, allowing for in-depth explorations of game development, mechanics, and core concepts that might be overlooked in a typical presentation. Xbox held another Developer Direct in January 2024, featuring games such as Senua's Saga: Hellblade 2, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, and Avowed.
With a strong slate of Xbox first-party games slated for 2025, it's reasonable to anticipate a new Developer Direct soon. A recent tweet from well-known Game Pass leaker eXtas1s hints that Xbox might announce a Developer Direct presentation tomorrow, January 9. Additionally, the insider suggested that the 2025 Xbox Developer Direct could be scheduled for Thursday, January 23. This rumor gains further credibility from a tweet by notable Microsoft insider Jez Corden, who mentioned yesterday that an Xbox Developer Direct announcement is imminent.
Xbox has a packed schedule for 2025, which could make this Developer Direct the most significant one yet. Since id Software has been quiet since summer 2024, they might unveil new details about the highly anticipated Doom: The Dark Ages at the January 2025 Xbox Developer Direct. Obsidian's The Outer Worlds 2 could receive a detailed presentation and a release date, while Avowed might get a final trailer before its launch on February 14, 2025. South of Midnight and Fable, two eagerly awaited Xbox titles set for 2025, could also benefit from in-depth showcases and confirmed release dates. Additionally, there are rumors that an Unreal Engine 5 remake of The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion might be revealed at the January 2025 Xbox Developer Direct.
Xbox had a successful run in the latter half of 2024 with major releases like Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, STALKER 2, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, and more. 2025 promises to be even more exciting for Xbox, and the upcoming Developer Direct is poised to set the stage for this year.
