Assassin's Creed enthusiasts who encountered difficulties launching their games after a recent Windows update will be relieved to learn that Ubisoft has released fixes. Patches have been rolled out for Assassin's Creed Origins and Assassin's Creed Valhalla, addressing the problems caused by the Windows 11 24H2 update. However, some Ubisoft titles, such as Assassin's Creed Odyssey, might still face lingering issues.
Windows frequently rolls out updates, and the 24H2 update for Windows 11 introduced several enhancements, including Wi-Fi 7 support, advanced energy-saving features, and AI-powered Copilot+ PC capabilities. Unfortunately, following this update, some players reported that certain games, including those from the Assassin's Creed series, failed to start or exhibited erratic behavior. The newly released patches aim to resolve these issues for Origins and Valhalla.
Ubisoft has confirmed that both Assassin's Creed Origins and Assassin's Creed Valhalla have received updates to counteract the effects of the Windows 11 24H2 update. These updates should automatically download through Steam, ensuring that the games function properly. Players should ensure they have sufficient storage space; the patch for Origins requires 230 MB, while Valhalla's patch needs 500 MB.
The specific element in the Windows 24H2 update that disrupted some Ubisoft games remains unclear. While the community appreciates the fixes for Origins and Valhalla, some players have voiced concerns about other titles that have yet to receive similar patches. Assassin's Creed Odyssey, for instance, may still suffer from unresponsiveness or complete failure to launch. Although Ubisoft has managed to mitigate the most severe issues with other games like Star Wars: Outlaws and Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, some performance hiccups may persist. Fans of Assassin's Creed Odyssey might want to delay updating to Windows 11 until a fix is available for their game.
Although the situation is improving, the initial occurrence of these issues was unfortunate. Reports of game malfunctions began surfacing when the Windows 24H2 update preview was released five months ago, yet the problems persisted into the official rollout. This development is particularly troubling given Microsoft's push for Windows 10 users to upgrade to Windows 11. Fortunately, the majority of games have not been significantly affected by the update.
