*Assassin’s Creed Shadows* stands out as one of the most expansive entries in the franchise, featuring a robust progression system that complements its vast scale. Here's a detailed look at the maximum levels in *Assassin’s Creed Shadows* and how the level cap functions.
*Assassin’s Creed Shadows* introduces a revamped progression system, blending traditional XP-based advancement with a new Knowledge Ranks system. XP progression in the game unlocks access to higher-tier weapons, armor, and gear, enhancing Naoe and Yasuke's base stats.
To fully explore all the Japanese provinces on the game's map, players need to reach Level 35. However, the XP grind doesn't stop there. Initially, Ubisoft suggested a Level Cap of 40, but players can actually push their levels up to 60. It's anticipated that this cap might increase further with the upcoming *Claws of Awaji* expansion for *Assassin’s Creed Shadows*.
To access all available skills, players must reach Knowledge Rank 6. However, this isn't the end of the journey. Upon reaching this rank, Naoe and Yasuke unlock a new Knowledge tree, offering several passive skills to further tailor their playstyle.

Mastery represents the third pillar of progression in *Assassin’s Creed Shadows*, serving as the game's skill points. These points are essential for unlocking new skills across the six Mastery trees available for each protagonist. The cost in Mastery Points varies depending on the skill.
With a plethora of skills to unlock, players have numerous opportunities to earn Mastery Points through diverse in-game activities. While there's a theoretical limit to Mastery Points, reaching it would require extensive gameplay. The *Claws of Awaji* expansion, set to launch later in 2025, is expected to introduce new methods for earning Mastery.
In *Assassin’s Creed Shadows*, each Japanese province has an associated level. At the game's outset, the highest level requirement is for Kii, set at Level 35. As players advance and gain XP, the levels of some regions will adjust to match their progress.
However, there's a cap on how high enemy and province difficulty levels can scale beyond Level 40. From Level 42 onwards, the recommended level for each province remains two levels below the player's current XP level. This ensures a consistent challenge and maintains combat pacing in the endgame, rewarding dedicated players who invest significant time into the game.
