Atuel: Award-Winning Documentary Game Hits Android Soon

Matajuegos, the innovative indie co-op from Argentina, has exciting news for gamers: their surrealist documentary game, Atuel, is set to launch on PC and Android later this year. Eager fans can already pre-register on the game's Steam page, with Google Play pre-registration expected to follow soon.

Originally launched on itch.io in September 2022, Atuel quickly captured the attention of the gaming community with its unique fusion of documentary storytelling, experimental gameplay, and breathtaking dreamlike visuals. The game's innovative approach earned it the 'Innovation in Experience Design Award' at IndieCade 2022, alongside numerous other accolades as a groundbreaking documentary game. Atuel has also been showcased at prestigious events such as the Marché du Film at Cannes and the Smithsonian American Art Museum.

Curious about what Atuel has to offer? Check out the trailer below:

What Do You Do in Atuel, the Documentary Game?

Atuel immerses players in the enchanting yet climate-affected Atuel River Valley in Argentina. Far from a conventional game, Atuel offers an experiential journey where players shapeshift into various animals and elements of the ecosystem, seamlessly becoming part of the landscape. One moment you could be soaring through the sky, and the next, you might be flowing as the river itself.

The game weaves in real-life interviews with historians, biologists, geologists, and local residents, providing deep insights into the region's history, its current state, and the future it faces due to climate change. Matajuegos partnered with the international documentary team, The 12.01 Project, to bring these compelling stories to life. The visuals, inspired by the Cuyo desert, create an almost otherworldly atmosphere that sets Atuel apart.

While waiting for Android pre-registration to open, you can explore more on the Steam page or the official website. Once Atuel hits mobile, it will feature localization in seven new languages and full controller support.

In the meantime, don't miss out on our coverage of another exciting new title, the open-world ski and snowboard game Grand Mountain Adventure 2.
