"Coyote vs. Acme Film May Hit Theaters Despite Cancellation"

by Nicholas May 02,2025

According to a report by Deadline, the previously shelved Warner Bros. movie Coyote vs. Acme may finally see a release. Los Angeles-based independent film production and distribution company Ketchup Entertainment is currently in deep negotiations to acquire the film. Although the deal is not yet finalized, a theatrical release is anticipated for 2026 if the acquisition goes through.

Coyote vs. Acme was announced in 2022 and is based on a 1990 Ian Frazier New Yorker article. The film, co-written by James Gunn and featuring Will Forte and John Cena, was initially set to premiere on Max in mid-2023. However, despite completing filming, Warner Bros. decided to shelve it, sparking a dedicated fan campaign to save the movie.

Ketchup Entertainment has a history of rescuing films from cancellation. They recently saved another Warner Bros. project, The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie, from a similar fate. This film became the first fully animated Looney Tunes movie to receive a theatrical release in the US, earning praise from IGN as a "laugh-out-loud riot."

Ketchup Entertainment's portfolio includes other notable projects such as Hellboy: The Crooked Man and the Robert Rodriguez thriller Hypnotic, starring Ben Affleck. They also co-produced Michael Mann's 2023 biopic Ferrari.
