Hideo Kojima took to the stage at SXSW 2025 in Austin, TX this evening to unveil an exciting new trailer for Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, alongside a confirmed release date.
Death Stranding 2 is set to launch on June 26, 2025, exclusively for the PlayStation 5. However, fans who opt for the Digital Deluxe Edition or the Collector’s Edition will enjoy early access starting from June 24.
The captivating 10-minute trailer showcases a mix of cinematic scenes, gameplay footage, and introduces a character named Neil, portrayed by Italian actor Luca Marinelli. Neil, who bears a striking resemblance to Snake from Kojima's renowned Metal Gear series, is seen donning a bandana and leading a group of eerie soldiers. This character, equipped with an assault rifle, adds a thrilling layer to the narrative.

The trailer further evokes the spirit of Metal Gear with the introduction of the Magellan Man, a formidable tar-like creature merged with the DHV Magellan, reminiscent of Metal Gear Rex. The Magellan Man, piloted like a mech from Pacific Rim, battles against colossal and unsettling tar monsters. A 15-inch statue of the Magellan Man is included in the Collector's Edition, adding to its allure.
Evoking memories of Metal Gear Rex, the Magellan Man is a highlight of the trailer.
Pricing for Death Stranding 2 includes the standard edition at $69.99, the Digital Deluxe Edition at $79.99, and the Collector's Edition at $229.99. Pre-orders will open on March 17.
Continuing the saga from the 2019 original, Death Stranding 2 carries the thought-provoking tagline, "Should We Have Connected?" The official synopsis reads:
Embark on an inspiring mission of human connection beyond the UCA. Sam — with companions by his side — sets out on a new journey to save humanity from extinction. Join them as they traverse a world beset by otherworldly enemies, obstacles, and a haunting question: should we have connected? Step by step, legendary game creator Hideo Kojima changes the world once again.
