In Dynasty Warriors: Origins, you primarily step into the shoes of the Wanderer on a mission to restore peace. Along this journey, you'll encounter numerous pivotal decisions within the main storyline, each leading to different outcomes. No matter your choices, you'll often find yourself accompanied by powerful companions on the battlefield.
These companions are not just there for show; they are formidable allies who can greatly enhance your combat effectiveness. While the Wanderer's upgrades are beneficial, switching to your companions can offer a significant advantage. Here’s how you can seamlessly switch characters to leverage their strengths.
Switching to a companion is only possible during battles where you have one by your side. Before the battle, during the war council, you'll see an option to select your companion or to go into battle alone. Remember, you can't switch to any companions mid-battle if you've opted to fight solo.
Once the battle commences, you'll notice your companion's health bar positioned at the bottom right of the screen, just above your own. Below this, a blue bar, similar to your Musou bar, will appear. This bar fills up as you engage in combat, with actions such as:
Virtually every combat action contributes to filling this bar, albeit at a slower rate compared to your own Musou bar.
When your companion's blue bar is fully charged, a "Change Character" prompt will appear next to it. To switch, press and hold the designated button for about a second. This action is performed using the View Button on Xbox, the C key on PC, or the Touchpad on PlayStation.
It's advisable to switch to another character amidst intense battles, as your companions are exceptionally powerful. Once you take control, you'll only have them for approximately a minute. The blue bar that allowed the switch will start draining, serving as a timer for your control duration. Your new character comes equipped with full Bravery and a suite of potent combat arts, ready to unleash havoc on your foes.
Switching characters also triggers a dramatic entry with a powerful attack, so aim at an enemy to maximize impact. Your companion will have their own Musou and health bars, both fully charged upon switching, enabling you to execute their unique special attack to devastating effect.
