Elden Ring Set for Nintendo Switch 2 Release in 2025

by Hazel May 02,2025

Elden Ring is set to make its debut on the Nintendo Switch 2 in 2025, a thrilling announcement that was revealed during Nintendo's Switch 2 Direct. While specifics on how this version will compare to those released on other platforms remain under wraps, the inclusion in today's presentation signals the arrival of Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition for Nintendo enthusiasts later this year.

PlaySince its launch in February 2022, Elden Ring has become a cultural phenomenon, amassing over 13 million sales within the first month and reaching nearly 29 million copies sold to date. The game has inspired unique challenges, such as defeating bosses with the Nintendo Switch Ring Fit controller, and has spurred ambitious speedrunning efforts. Following its success, the game was expanded with the critically acclaimed Shadow of the Erdtree DLC in 2023, and the upcoming cooperative spin-off, Elden Ring: Nightreign, has shown promising results in early public network tests.

In our comprehensive 10/10 review, IGN praised Elden Ring, stating, "Elden Ring is a massive iteration on what FromSoftware began with the Souls series, bringing its relentlessly challenging combat to an incredible open world that gives us the freedom to choose our own path." The Shadow of the Erdtree DLC also received a perfect score from us: "Like the base game did before it, Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree raises the bar for single-player DLC expansions. It takes everything that made the base game such a landmark RPG, condenses it into a relatively compact 20-25 hour campaign, and provides fantastic new challenges for heavily invested fans to chew on."

FromSoftware has not yet disclosed a specific release date for Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition, nor have they detailed how it will differ from previous versions. For more information on all the announcements from today's Nintendo Switch 2 Direct, you can find the details right here.
