The Exit 8 has now arrived on Android, blending elements into a unique gaming experience. Developed by Kotake Create and published by Playism, it's available for $3.99. This walking simulator offers an eerie twist that challenges players at every turn.
In The Exit 8, you navigate through an endless underground passageway reminiscent of a Japanese metro station. The game traps you in a loop where tiles, lights, posters, and even a solitary man walking towards you endlessly repeat. The core challenge lies in spotting anomalies—whether it's a poster with an altered graphic, flickering lights, or a sudden river of blood instead of a floor. The gameplay revolves around noticing these subtle changes and reacting quickly.
If you detect something unusual, you must turn back. If not, you continue moving forward. The objective is to reach the eighth exit without making a mistake, which means correctly spotting and reacting to anomalies eight times consecutively. Fail, and you start over.
The game's design draws inspiration from liminal spaces and the Backrooms, with settings modeled after real Japanese metro stations, such as Kiyosumi-Shirakawa Station in Tokyo. The claustrophobic corridors and repetitive architecture immerse you in a surreal, unsettling atmosphere. The Exit 8 engages you actively with your environment, prompting you to scrutinize every detail that might hint at danger or a shift in reality. The constant questioning of your memory and perception ensures that each playthrough feels unique.
Originally released for PC in November 2023 after about nine months of development, The Exit 8 garnered 1.4 million downloads worldwide on Steam. Now, it's accessible on mobile devices via the Google Play Store.
