Final Fantasy VII Remake Part 3: Story Complete, Full Steam Ahead!
Directors Hamaguchi and Kitase recently confirmed that the main storyline for Final Fantasy VII Remake Part 3 is complete, and development is progressing smoothly. This exciting news ensures the trilogy remains on track for its planned release.
In a Famitsu interview, coinciding with the PC release of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, the team revealed that work on Part 3 commenced immediately after Rebirth's completion. Hamaguchi confirmed they're adhering to the original project timeline, promising a timely release.
Kitase elaborated, stating that while the core narrative was finalized before Rebirth's February 2024 PS5 launch, subsequent refinements have been completed. He expressed satisfaction with the final product, emphasizing its faithfulness to the original while delivering a satisfying conclusion. He confidently anticipates that fans will be pleased with the trilogy's culmination.
Despite the critical acclaim and widespread success of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, released earlier this year, the development team initially harbored concerns about player reception. Kitase acknowledged anxieties surrounding the game's status as a remake and the second part of a trilogy. However, the overwhelmingly positive response alleviated these worries and boosted confidence for the final installment. Hamaguchi highlighted this positive reception as beneficial for the atmosphere surrounding Part 3's development.
Hamaguchi's "logic-based approach" to game design, incorporating player feedback strategically, played a significant role in Rebirth's success. He clarified that while suggestions are considered, only those that enhance the core vision are implemented.
The team also addressed the growing prominence of PC gaming. Kitase noted that rising development costs necessitate a broader market reach, making PC releases increasingly vital. The global accessibility of PCs, unlike consoles restricted by regional policies, makes PC ports a strategic necessity.
This perspective informed the decision to expedite the PC port of Rebirth compared to the first game's PC release. Hamaguchi emphasized the shift in player demographics as the driving force behind this accelerated porting process.
The lessons learned from the first two installments promise a highly anticipated finale. Considering the team's commitment and the positive reception of Rebirth, there's a strong possibility that Part 3 might even see a faster PC release than its predecessor.
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is available now on PC (Steam) and PlayStation 5. The first installment, Final Fantasy VII Remake, is available on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, and PC (Steam).
