Final Fantasy VII's sequel is in development, but fans will need to be patient for updates, according to game director Hamaguchi. 2024 was a successful year for Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, the second part of the trilogy, garnering awards and global attention. The team aims to broaden the franchise's appeal with unique challenges in the upcoming third installment.
Hamaguchi also cited Grand Theft Auto VI as a noteworthy game this year, expressing empathy for Rockstar Games' team and acknowledging the immense pressure following GTA V's success.
Specific details regarding the third game remain scarce, but development is reportedly progressing smoothly. While the team is currently focused on the recently released Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, Hamaguchi promises a unique experience for players.
It's worth noting that Final Fantasy XVI's May 2024 launch underperformed, falling short of sales projections, though the exact figures remain undisclosed. Similarly, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth sales also lagged behind expectations, though Square Enix maintains that it doesn't view the results as a complete failure. The company remains confident that Final Fantasy XVI can still meet its targets within its 18-month window.
