Gran Saga Shuts Down Next Month

by Aurora May 25,2025

NPIXEL has officially announced the closure of Gran Saga, marking the end of its brief international journey. The game's services will cease on April 30th, 2025, and in-app purchases (IAPs) along with downloads have already been disabled.

Originally launched in Japan in 2021 with considerable success, Gran Saga's global version was released in November 2024. However, it struggled to maintain momentum and will shut down after only six months.

The decision to close Gran Saga appears to stem from financial challenges and the inability to sustain a viable service. Despite a promising start, the game failed to carve out a niche in the fiercely competitive global market. The MMORPG genre is dominated by well-established titles with loyal fanbases, making it extremely challenging for new games to gain traction without offering something revolutionary.

ytGran Saga's closure is part of a broader trend of gacha RPGs shutting down. Just last month, I reported on the closure of My Hero Academia: The Strongest Hero, which is not an isolated case. The market is oversaturated, and players tend to stick with familiar games, making it difficult for new or niche titles to survive.

For those who made recent purchases and are seeking refunds, you have until May 30th to submit your request. However, refunds may not be possible if the items have already been used or due to other store policies.

If you've spent time in Ethprozen, this closure is a bitter goodbye, but it's increasingly common in the mobile gaming industry.
