In the thrilling world of *Monster Hunter Wilds*, the Forbidden Lands are home to some of the most formidable creatures you'll ever encounter. Among them, Uth Duna stands out as a leviathan-type monster you'll meet early in your journey. If you're eager to conquer this beast and claim its valuable rewards, here's a comprehensive guide on how to beat and capture Uth Duna.

How to Unlock Uth Duna in Monster Hunter Wilds

Your first encounter with Uth Duna takes place in the **Scarlet Forest** during the mission questline of Chapter 1. After tackling other significant foes like Lala Barina and Congalala, you'll need to rendezvous with Olivia and Erik, who are investigating a nearby dam. As the weather shifts dramatically, Uth Duna will make its grand entrance during **Mission 1-5: Beyond the Deluge**. Your mission then becomes clear: defeat this beast before it wreaks further havoc.

How to Beat and Capture Uth Duna in Monster Hunter Wilds

Uth Duna, known as **‘A Feast in the Deep’**, emerges when the waters in the Scarlet Forest swell to dangerous heights. As the apex predator of the region, facing Uth Duna is a more challenging task than your previous encounters. To prepare, consider arming yourself with a **thunder-element weapon**, which you can first obtain from Rey Dau in Mission 2-2. If that's not an option, equip gear or a Talisman like **Water Charm I** to boost your water resistance.

Before you set out, don't forget to enjoy a hearty meal to keep your Health and Stamina at peak levels. Also, pack **Nulberries** to counteract **Waterblight**, the primary status ailment Uth Duna can inflict.

Uth Duna Attacks and Weaknesses

When battling Uth Duna, pay close attention to its iridescent fins on its legs and tail, which serve as a **‘Veil’**. This veil temporarily enhances the monster's defense but slows its movement. By dealing sufficient damage to the veil, you can force the fins to retract, exposing Uth Duna's weak points, such as its **Head (breakable), Mouth, Tail (breakable), and both Forelegs (breakable)**. However, once the veil is down, Uth Duna becomes more aggressive, so agility is key as you navigate the flooded terrain.

Uth Duna's arsenal includes several physical attacks that leverage its size to cause significant damage and create disruptive waves in the water. Key attacks to watch for include:

  • **Belly Slam** – Uth Duna rears up on its back legs, exposing its belly, before slamming down.
  • **Roar** – Like many monsters, Uth Duna's roar can temporarily immobilize you.
  • **Body Coil** – It coils its body and spins, then lashes out with its tail.
  • **Aerial Twirl** – Mimicking a whale's leap, Uth Duna twirls in the air before crashing down, affecting a wide area.
  • **Leg Swipe** – In close combat, it may swipe at you with its clawed feet.

Remember, after defeating a monster once, you can check its weaknesses in your Field Guide for future reference.

Should You Capture or Kill Uth Duna?

As with previous *Monster Hunter* games, you have the option to either capture or kill Uth Duna near the end of the battle. To capture it, you must weaken the monster until it's "tired" or "exhausted" (nearly dead), then use **Shock Traps** or **Pitfall Traps**. Once the monster is trapped, deploy at least one **Tranq Bomb** to knock it out, completing the capture.

Both capturing and killing Uth Duna yield valuable rewards, though the specific items differ. Here are the potential low-rank and high-rank drops you can obtain:
