James Gunn, the head of DC Studios, is known for collaborating with familiar faces. Now, an actress from Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy confirms discussions with Gunn about a DC Universe role.
The DC Universe aims to build a successful shared universe, learning from the DCEU's inconsistencies. While the DCEU had successes, it also faced financial setbacks and narrative fragmentation. Gunn, renowned for his Guardians of the Galaxy work, hopes to avoid these pitfalls, potentially bringing some familiar actors along.
According to Agents of Fandom, Pom Klementieff (Guardians of the Galaxy's Mantis) revealed ongoing conversations with Gunn about a specific DC character. While attending San Antonio's Superhero Comic Con, she playfully avoided naming the character, but confirmed Gunn has a role in mind for her.
Klementieff fondly recalled her Guardians of the Galaxy experience, expressing her gratitude for the opportunity. With Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 concluding the original team's story, she remains open to reprising Mantis under the right circumstances.
Gunn later confirmed Klementieff's comments on Threads, clarifying that the role is unrelated to his upcoming Superman film. He affirmed that discussions are underway for a specific DC character, but details remain undisclosed.
Gunn's tendency to cast familiar actors, including his brother and wife, has drawn criticism from some. However, others argue this is common practice among filmmakers. Ultimately, Klementieff's suitability for the role should be judged based on her performance, rather than pre-conceived notions.
